Andrés Santana Ramírez, a resident of Higüey, in 2010 graduated with a degree in Environmental Sciences from the Instituto Técnico de Estudios Superiores de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales Jarabacoa. In 2019 he received a degree in Surveying from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD-Higüey).

Since 2011, he has developed a sea turtle monitoring program on the beaches of Nisibón, as well as assistance concerning the same subject on the beaches of Bávaro and Macao.

Since March 2011, he is the administrator of the Protected Area of the Ria Maimon Wildlife Refuge, designated by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, where he has been carrying out different beach cleaning activities, as well as the restoration of the banks of the Maimon River, in Nisibon, near the Ria Maimon Protected Area, very affected by cattle ranching. These activities have included groups of employees of different hotels located from Uvero Alto to Cap Cana, students, fishermen associations of Nisibón, neighborhood council, Civil Defense, and other authorities of the Municipal District of Las Lagunas de Nisibón.
