Omar Shamir Reynoso, a Dominican biologist graduated from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Faculty of Science, School of Biology. Born and raised in an environment where the sea was always present, the coastal area awakened a world of curiosities and concerns that he then took to the academy where he found answers to many of those concerns and new ones arose that have kept him immersed in that world.

He has developed a long career in the public sector in institutions such as the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, and is currently in charge of the Oceanography and Marine Resources Division of the National Authority of Maritime Affairs (ANAMAR).

He is a member of the board of directors of important Dominican NGOs such as FUNDEMAR and Grupo Jaragua.
