Gustavo A. Román, born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is a professional with a solid background in business administration and a specialization in tourism, obtained at the University of Alcalá de Henares in Madrid, Spain in 2009.
In 2010, he began his career in the tourism sector as a project manager of the Santo Domingo Tourism Cluster, demonstrating his passion for the industry. He also shared his knowledge as an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Universidad Iberoamericana UNIBE.
His commitment to tourism development took him to Miches, in the northeast of the Dominican Republic, where he joined the Tropicalia project team of the Cisneros Organization as assistant to the local coordinator of the Tropicalia Foundation. In 2011, he was promoted to general coordinator of the Tropicalia Foundation, and in 2018 he assumed the position of inter-institutional relations manager of the Tropicalia project, a position that, since 2020, he shares with that of Executive Director of the El Seibo-Miches Hotel and Tourism Association PROMICHES.
Gustavo is convinced of the potential of the tourism industry to generate wellbeing in environments far from the big cities, where the big decisions are made, based on an agenda that recognizes and protects the natural assets that sustain the tourism offer. As General Coordinator of the Miches Sea Turtle Monitoring and Protection Program PROTORTUGA, he has played an important role in the design, establishment of alliances, planning, organization and reporting of the initiative.
His constant search for excellence led him to participate in the Global Competitive Leadership program at Georgetown University in the United States in 2015, thanks to a scholarship from Fundación Cisneros. He complemented his training with courses in negotiation techniques and project management, which demonstrates his dedication to professional growth, positive impact on his community and the development of his country.
